Animal Reiki... from the "Horse's Mouth" I think I am still in shock as to how my horses reacted when Melanie came out to share Reiki with them. I really had no idea or expectations of whether or not his would even work to help integrate my new horse into the “herd.” Melanie quietly stood at the pasture fence and meditated. My gelding Jax strolled over to check her out and then ran back into the pasture. One by one the others came to the fence to check her out. One nuzzled her, one hung her head over the fence, and one literally leaned his whole body into it. Finally, that left only Jax and my new mare, Aspen; he slowly walked her over with the others. Brining her into the group. Everything and everyone were calm and at peace. When she was done, Melanie greeted each horse and gave then nose rubs. Since then, there has been peace in the stable as well as the pasture! I will certainly have her come back for regular sessions. Thank you!! ~ Nick F. Even after having Melanie use Reiki on myself I was amazed when she used Reiki on my German Shepherd. Jasmine was so calm and seemed to enjoy what was happening. Jasmine usually doesn't do well with strangers but she even "booped" Melanie on the nose. Jasmine was so comfortable she laid down several times. I would recommend Melanie for human and animal Reiki. ~ Robin G. My 10 year old lab, Sookie, has thoroughly enjoyed her sessions with Melanie. She has severe arthritis pain in her spine, knees, hips and low back and frequently limps. After spending an hour with Melanie she acts like a puppy again and hardly limps at all! Melanie takes her on a walk outside during the session if she needs it, provides her water and lots of love. Reiki has been a more effective therapy for Sookie beyond steroid shots she’s received at the vet, as well. In addition to volunteering LAL Reiki weekly to the hard working horses at the Kamloops Therapeutic Riding Assn, I also volunteer with Kamloops Ruff Start Rescue, an organization that brings to Canada small dogs from the high-kill shelters in California. These rescues are fostered, vetted for physical and behavioural challenges then found forever, loving homes. Offering to Reiki to stressed, anxious rescues is such an uplifting, humbling gift to me! I have given several presentations about LAL Reiki to both Board members and fosters. I also donate my time and LAL Reiki at various fundraisers for KRSR. I purchased 100 LAL brochures from SARA and have created informative signage which form part of my donated services. It's a privilege and a pleasure to share the LAL Reiki info with folks!

I'm currently working with the Cdn Reiki Assn to bring the LAL method of Animal Reiki into the organization as the Gold Standard of Animal Reiki. This has been a passion of mine for some time and I'm thrilled we're finally getting some traction! This is involving numerous Zoom Meetings and creation of blended documentation to be in alignment with the integrity of both Associations.

Recently one of the non-therapy horses being boarded at the Therapeutic Riding Assn where I volunteer, passed away from colic about an hour before I arrived for my weekly Reiki time with the therapy horses. Everyone was understandably subdued and solemn, including the horses. During the next hour and a half, I spent time with each of the therapy horses. Every single one of them exhibited lots of releases (yawning and body-shaking) and individually came up to touch my hands at the end as if in gratitude and solidarity. 2. Dr. Else Larsen DC is a high level dressage rider with the most amazing Chestnut Unicorn for her dance partner. Eight weeks ago after a "routine hock injection" by the vet, Quinlan's right hock developed both excruciatingly painful cellulitis as well as a nasty and pernicious bacterial infection requiring weeks in the vet clinic and several surgeries. While 'only' able to offer Distance Reiki to Quinlan, Else reported after each of my "All is Well" LAL Reiki sessions, he was noticeably brighter and happier.

Its been a very difficult last few years so I haven't been able to dedicate or promote animal reiki as I would have liked but my hope as always is to bring more awareness to animal centres whether rescues or sanctuaries. I also hope to be in a position that I can raise our mission with my fellow employer The Donkey Sanctuary to see if there is a way to partner together in some way. They are a global organisation and with many departments and people so I am still establishing working relationships at present but I will continue my efforts.
